Our training covers all aspects of the Competency Based Assessments required by Workplace Health and Safety, Queensland (30497 Course in Operating Cranes, Rigging & Scaffolding Equipment) for issue of certificates in the high risk work occupations of Dogger and Basic, Intermediate and Advanced Rigger. These Certificates are recognised nationally. Our training facilities are air-conditioned and fully purpose equipped. Our students have direct access to all the necessary plant required for the relevant course i.e. Cranes, EWP, Forklifts and Scaffold.



Dogger Course                                                                  

Our Dogging course cover the introductory rigging information relating to slings, slinging loads and directing loads lifted by cranes.

Our course is specifically developed to provide the legally required formal training (underpinning knowledge) as well as it provides the opportunity to gain practical experience in our purposely designed workshops.

The workshops will give persons without experience a better understanding on the recently gained knowledge by transferring it into practical tasks.

Persons with experience have the opportunity to expand their knowledge and to gain some additional experience. this may result in a shorter time period until you are able to undertake the practical assessment.

It is a legal requirement that licence applicants undertake formal training and obtain workplace experience before the final assessment can be undertaken. Experience (i.e. old logbooks, company letters) obtained prior to attending the formal training may possibly be recognized in your training plan after being validated by us.

Our course workshops are designed to fill any gaps that might be found after our evaluation.

Basic Rigging Course                                                       

Already hold a Dogger Certificate? Wanting to gain further qualifications to make you more employable? The Basic Rigging licence is the next step into the world of construction and cranes. The More Skills Australia Basic Rigging course provides the legally required formal training and incorporates a workshop that provides valuable practical experience.

About the course
During our course workshops the students have direct access to the required plant and equipment used in the basic work application such as erection of steel structures, chain blocks and other lifting equipment. These workshops are specifically designed to provide course attendees with a better understanding of the theory training.

For experienced persons the combination of previously documented experience and the additional gained experience in our workshops may result in a reduction of the workplace experience and this may shorten the time period before you are able to undertake the final practical assessment.

Course outline:
Steel erection - Winches, fleet angles 
 Lifting purchases, sheaves & calculation of loads
Calculation of counterweight required for cantilever beams 
Safety nets
Cantilevered crane loading platforms
Mast climbers
Material hoists
General rigging appliances & fittings
Packing, securing & moving loads
Work at Heights
Rope knots & splicing

Intermediate Rigger Course                                            Unit of Competency OHSCER223A


A person already holding a Basic Rigger certificate may undertake the Intermediate Rigger course. It covers rigging in connection with various types of cranes and multiple crane lifts, erection of tilt slabs and the rigging required for demolition work. The training has a practical "hands-on" focus and students have direct access to equipment that is used at the job.

About the course:
Our Intermediate Rigging course covers the legally required formal training and incorporates a workshop that provides valuable practical experience in a way that makes understanding and learning easy.

The Basic Rigging licence is pre-requisite for the Intermediate Rigging course. However, course participants are not required to have prior Intermediate Rigging experience to attend this 4-day course.

For experienced persons the combination of previously documented experience and the additional experience gained in our workshops may shorten the time period before you are able to undertake the final practical assessment.

Course outcome:
Intermediate Rigging Licence (RI) - Statement of Attendance

Partial completion of the Unit of competency OHSCER223A

It is a legal requirement that licence applicants complete the formal training prior to gaining workplace experience. However, experience (i.e. old logbooks, company letters) obtained prior to attending the formal training may possibly be recognized in your training plan after being validated by us.

Our course workshops are designed to fill any gaps that might be found after our initial evaluation.

Tower crane climbing process

Selection, rigging & use of cranes & hoists
Packing, securing & moving loads
Rope knots & splicing

Pre-requisite:
Course participants must hold a basic rigging licence or undertaken the formal training and basic rigging.



 

Advanced Rigger Course                                                 Unit of Competency OHSCER224A

The Advanced Rigger course covers the basics of lifting machines including gin poles, guy derricks, etc and rigging work associated with fabricated hung scaffold and suspended scaffold. This course builds upon the sound base provided in the prerequisite rigging courses. It covers the legally required formal training and also has a practical focus through integrated workshops.

About the course:
As for all other rigging courses offered by More Skills Australia the Advanced Rigging course also focuses on the practical components through our course integrated workshops.

The workshops are supervised by our experienced trainers and specifically designed to provide course attendees with a better understanding of the application of the theory training.
